Hello, I’m Alex Bowen, Chief Digital & Technology Officer at The UK Hydrographic Office.
For more than 230 years we’ve been a world leading Hydrographic Office, delivering marine geospatial data essential to everything that happens at sea – from global trade and defence to sustainability and safety.
We produce ADMIRALTY products and services – charts, publications and digital tools – relied upon by 90% of large ships trading internationally, supporting safe, compliant and efficient navigation. As an executive agency of the Ministry of Defence, we also provide the Royal Navy and UK defence vessels with the information they need to ensure safety and security.
But the maritime sector is evolving fast, and so must we. Digital technology is transforming expectations, and I’m excited to lead this change at the UKHO.

As CCO, you will play a pivotal role in leading our customer focused strategy, including business development, customer experience and product strategy. Key to our customer-centric strategy will be to building and maintaining strong relationships with international partners and the commercial shipping industry. These relationships will be essential to sustaining and growing commercial returns, guiding the transformation of our services to meet the demands of a rapidly changing maritime environment. To deliver our public task, you will also be key in maintaining strong relationships with our defence customer. Based in Taunton, Somerset, we are proud of our modern and purpose-built office in beautiful surroundings with a variety of on-site facilities and our inclusive and purpose driven culture. Our people are at the core of everything we do, and as CCO, you will play a vital part in ensuring we continue to deliver for our customers worldwide.
